Motor Coach Industries (MCI), an industry leader in Charter and Luxury Touring Coaches, is seeking a Quality Engineer and a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our team. As the market leader, MCI designs, manufactures and markets coaches for tour, line haul, transit and conversion uses. Reporting to the Quality Line Lead, the Quality Engineer will play a key role in…developing control plans, conducting Product Failure Modes and Effects Analysis for multiple areas of assembly, and working with Winnipeg on issues brought up from the assembly line. This position will assist in tracking quality assurance metrics (write ups per coach for both Pembina and Winnipeg). To assist the Quality Technicians in interpreting standards and to help create/or modify standards to meet our changing environment is a key point of this position. 


  • Lead and manage problem solving related to design, manufacturing, supplied parts, inspection processes and equipment
  • Plans/conducts inspection, testing, analysis & design activities to ensure product quality
  • Manage processes and design change at suppliers and MCI to assure no negative impact to coach quality and reliability
  • Support manufacturing through problem solving training and Continuous Improvement activities. 
  • Conduct customer and field concern investigation and countermeasure to minimize impact to customer and cost
  • Share and adopt best practices for in-house and supplier process
  • Deploy coach quality system improvement activities for customer satisfaction issues
  • Recommends continuous improvement activities, product & process parameters & procedural systems.


  • Engineering Degree
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge on the use of inspection instruments, gages and devices for successful analysis of parts and assemblies
  • Strong analytical skills, high motivation and strong planning and organization skills
  • Ability to clearly explain concepts to individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office required.  Experience with other quality software applications beneficial. (e.g. statistical analysis) 
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification
  • Experience in Large vehicle/automotive production
  • Previous Audit experience

Manufacturing Engineering Manager (ME Manager) is responsible for the implementation of the overall technical vision and direction of the manufacturing engineering department to become a World Class organization. Works with and assists the plant manager in meeting plant goals (safety, people, quality, delivery, cost and environmental). Works with, assists and trains superintendents and supervisors as needed on company programs, systems and policies related to manufacturing, including work place organization (aka 5S). Manages the Training Within Industry Program (TWI) program for the plant. Subject matter expert for the product development process (PDP) for the plant and ensures PDP is being followed and that all necessary plant personnel are properly trained. Liaison between the plant and design/product engineering to ensure issues at the plant are clearly communicated to and understood by design/product engineering. 


Lead people, product & process related items such as :

  • Lead and direct manufacturing engineers, applicable manufacturing engineering technicians, and trainers.
  • Develop yearly team goals based on plant and company goals and play an active role in developing yearly plant goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities that focus on waste elimination such as labor, process improvement, and cost reduction.  
  • Provide team guidance where necessary to ensure new designs/systems are accurate, adequate and manufacturable.
  • Ensuring the development of the team and each team member.
  • Capital selection, justification, and implementation- identify and assist in the purchasing of new capital along with identifying and diligently implementing runoff procedures to ensure shop floor success. Managing assigned capital related projects to meet budget requirements.
  • Identify and implement systems necessary to help MCI become World Class
  • Develop budget for the ME team and play an active role in developing yearly plant budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned by the plant manager 


  • Accredited Engineering Bachelor’s degree (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.).
  • Minimum of 7 years engineering experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership/management  role. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with manufacturing.
  • English language fluency (read, write, speak and understand).
  • Process Oriented.
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communications.
  • Able to manage multiple simultaneous demands, while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in a LEAN, JIT environment.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP), materials requirement planning (MRP), and product life- cycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Excellent computer skills: typing, Microsoft Office, Windows, etc.
  • Working knowledge and use of manufacturing related systems such as process flow diagrams, process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA), design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA), resource models, time studies, etc. 


  • Manufacturing engineering experience in transportation, automotive or bus industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Autocad and Unigraphics is a plus.
  • Track record of building and leading teams is a plus.
